● If you have a big bore installed, then we strongly recommend to install the NGK CR spark plug type (such as the CR9E LINK or the iridium version CR9EIX LINK) instead of the stock/standard NGK CPR type, since the shorter Non-Projected CR ground electrodes are less prone to detonation compared to the longer projected CPR electrodes.
If you have a dome piston then the shorter electrode will make the install also easier by lowering the risk of piston contact.
● STANDARD NICKEL (OEM) vs G-POWER (PLATINUM UPGRADE) vs IRIDIUM IX (THE ULTIMATE UPGRADE)
We offer the standard OEM plugs, but we also stock the high-performance upgrades. Here is why you should consider moving up the ladder:
● Standard Nickel (OEM)
The baseline for reliability. Features a copper core for heat removal and a nickel alloy electrode.
- Verdict: Solid performance for daily use and standard service intervals.
● G-Power (Platinum Upgrade)
The smart "middle-ground" upgrade. These feature a fine platinum tip welded to the center electrode.
- Benefit: The finer tip requires less voltage to spark, leading to faster starts and quicker acceleration than nickel.
- Verdict: An economical performance boost.
● Iridium IX (The Ultimate Upgrade)
The gold standard for tuners. Iridium is significantly harder than platinum, allowing for an incredibly fine center electrode.
- Benefit: Extremely stable spark at high RPMs, superior anti-fouling, and the longest lifespan.
- Verdict: Highly recommended for high-performance builds where consistency is key.
● TUNERS KNOWLEDGE: PROJECTED vs. NON-PROJECTED ELECTRODES
This is the most critical section for engine builders.
You will notice some plugs have a "P" in the code (e.g., C**P**R8EA), and some do not (e.g., CR8E). This indicates whether the electrode is Projected or Non-Projected.
● Projected Electrode (The "P" Type)
The insulator and electrode extend further into the combustion chamber.
- Good for: Stock or mild engines. It places the spark closer to the center of the mix for efficient burning.
● Non-Projected Electrode (The Tuner's Choice)
The electrode sits further back, flush with the end of the threads. Yuminashi strongly recommends Non-Projected plugs for high-compression builds.
● WHY CHOOSE NON-PROJECTED?
- Piston Clearance: With high-compression Dome Pistons, space is tight. A projected plug risks physical contact with the piston, which is catastrophic. A non-projected plug provides essential clearance.
- Reducing Knock (Detonation): A long, projected electrode acts like a heat sink in the combustion chamber. In a race engine, it can start glowing and ignite the fuel before the spark fires (pre-ignition). The shorter, non-projected electrode stays cooler, significantly reducing the risk of engine knock.
● MULTI-GROUND (DOUBLE) ELECTRODES: Reliability First
For riders prioritizing absolute ignition reliability, we offer the Multi-Ground series (e.g., CR8EK | CR9EK | CR10EK).
These plugs feature two ground electrodes rather than one.
- The Benefit: The spark will always jump to the best path. It does not create two sparks at once, but it provides a "backup" path.
- Longevity: Because the wear is distributed between two ground straps, the gap grows much slower than on a standard plug. This puts less strain on your ignition coil and ensures consistent firing over a longer life.
